Which PGs actually let you focus at 2 a.m.?

5 min read

Not every PG is built for late-night grinding. If your semester depends on 2 a.m. study sessions, here's what to look for.

**Fibre WiFi with a wired backup.** 'High-speed WiFi' is meaningless. Ask for the ISP's name and the plan. A minimum of 100 Mbps symmetric fibre with a wired socket in the room is the baseline for anyone taking an online class or a live coding interview.

**A dedicated quiet floor.** The best PGs zone their rooms: social floor near the common area, quiet floor two levels up. Even if you're not a night-owl, you'll thank us.

**Warm lounges — not just study rooms.** A separate 'study room' sounds great on paper. In practice, students study wherever it feels comfortable. Look for a lounge with soft lighting, sofa seating, and a filter-coffee machine.

**Reading lamps in every room.** This tiny detail reveals whether the PG owner has ever actually studied there. Overhead tube-lights alone kill your eyes by 11 p.m.

**Backup power.** A single 15-minute power cut kills three hours of concentration. Every good PG has an inverter that covers WiFi + lights + one fan per room, minimum.
